Bill that would allow Likud MK to join the alliance, first reading

A bill that would allow the four MKs in the Knesset to break away from their party factions passed its first reading in the Knesset Plenum on Monday night by a majority of 57 to 42. The concerned committees have been tasked to prepare it for its second and third readings.

Under current law, one-third of Knesset members in the faction are required to be able to break up the MK. The new bill, which was to be brought for a preliminary reading at the plenum on Monday night, would replace the law and require only four MKs.
The bill aims to enable the coalition to recruit four of the 30 Likud MKs and no longer rely on the four Ram (United Arab List) MKs, who have given the coalition a hard time passing the controversial Family Reunification Bill.
