Bilkis Edhi dies at the age of 74 in Karachi – Henry Club

Philanthropist and humanitarian Bilkis Bano Edhi died on Friday at the age of 74 in a Karachi hospital.

His death was confirmed by his son Faisal Edhi, who also said that the funeral would be announced shortly.

Bilkis was a professional nurse and Bilkis was the head of the Edhi Foundation. He spent more than six decades of his life in the service of humanity. His charity saved thousands of unwanted children by keeping them jhoolas (cradle) at Edhi Homes and Centers across the country.

Called the Mother of Pakistan, she has been honored with various national and foreign awards including the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, the Lenin Peace Prize, the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice (2015) and the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. Met with her husband in 1986.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif termed Bilkis’ death as “a great loss for the country”.
