Bike theft cases: Police registers FIR on 170 complaints Coimbatore News – Times of India

Coimbatore: The city police have registered an FIR (First Information Report) in connection with over 170 motorcycle theft complaints made last year.
A police officer said that the police had not registered an FIR against these complaints as they were not able to ascertain the facts on receipt of the complaint.
However, when Deepak M Damor took charge as Municipal Commissioner in May, he ordered the police to register an FIR on all pending complaints regarding motorcycle theft cases, the official said.
So, according to the police data, 279 motorcycle theft cases were registered from the beginning of this year till 22 October, while 125 cases were registered in the whole of 2020. Of the 125 cases, 99 were resolved and 130 people were arrested for the last time. Compared to 106 solved cases this year and 153 arrests this year.
“After registering the FIR, many people claimed compensation from insurance companies. Such people could not get back the stolen motorcycles when they were recovered. The seized motorcycles will be handed over to the insurance companies through the court,” said the police officer.
The officer said the police were not bothered by the number of FIRs registered. “We immediately registered cases if the complaints were found to be genuine. In cases of mobile phone theft, we immediately register an FIR,” said the official.
Police data shows that most motorcycle thefts are reported in Racecourse police station limits near Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) campus, Cross Cut Road in Kattur police station limits and opposite Devanga School in RS Puram police station. Had happened. Limit
