Bihar Police constable, killed in collision with speeding truck in Banka district

A speeding truck broke a barricade and then rammed a police vehicle as a Bihar constable tried to avoid a check-point on the national highway in Banka district in the early hours of Monday.

The deceased constable has been identified as Sajjo. Banka Police has sent the dead constable’s body to the district hospital for postmortem.

According to Bihar Police, constables posted at Rajaon police station under the leadership of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Thakur were on duty to check overloaded vehicles at Rajwar Mor on the national highway.

According to a constable on duty at the time of the hit-and-run, one of the overloaded vehicles on sighting the police post broke the barricade and rammed the patrolling vehicle. Sajju, who was standing near the patrolling vehicle, came under the wheels of the speeding vehicle.

“Sajju died seconds after he was hit by an overloaded truck. The truck managed to escape from the spot by breaking the barricade,” the constable said.

The constable further said, “It seemed that the truck driver wanted to kill all the police personnel on duty at Rajwar Mor. Except Sajju, others were lucky.”

On getting information about the incident, senior officers of Banka District Police reached the spot. A senior police officer posted at Banka district police headquarters said, “Police teams have been formed and all police stations in the district and neighboring districts have been alerted about the truck.”

According to a senior Bihar Police official, this is not the first incident in Rajwar More where a police constable or vehicle was run over by a speeding truck. Earlier, Barhat in-charge BD Mandal and ASI were crushed by the truck during checking.
