Koderma: Koderma Police on Friday arrested probationary Deputy Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Kumar and his two friends Saurabh Kumar and Suraj Kumar in connection with the death of their friend Nikhil Ranjan at Jawahar Ghat under Chandwara police station area. The four friends had gone for a picnic at Telaiya Dam in Koderma on Friday when Nikhil died after “accidental” firing from Ashutosh’s service revolver near Jawahar Ghat area.
Police said Nikhil was taken to Sadar Hospital by his friends but he was declared brought dead.
Police said that on the basis of the complaint of Rishab Dev Singh, father of assistant sub-inspector Nikhil in Gaya, an FIR has been registered at Koderma police station. Bihar. “Our investigation is underway and all three are behind bars,” DSP Headquarters (Koderma) Sanjeev Kumar Singh said. He said, ‘The cause of Nikhil’s death is yet to be ascertained. A medical board has been constituted under the supervision of a magistrate under the chairmanship of Dr R Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Sadar Hospital.
The deceased was a resident of Patna, Bihar and the two accused – Ashutosh and Saurabh – also belong to the neighboring state and Ashutosh was posted in Bihar’s Buxar district. Only Suraj belongs to the kingdom (Koderma).
Nikhil’s maternal uncle Anil Sinha told TOI that Nikhil was a management student at Patna’s LN Mishra Institute, where Ashutosh also studied before joining the Bihar Police Service. He claimed that Ashutosh used to bet in IPL matches and had implicated many people including Nikhil. “In the past, there used to be tension between the two over money and Nikhil’s family had to give money to Ashutosh,” he said.
“On Friday, Nikhil had left the house saying that he was going to attend his friend’s engagement party in Bihar Sharif,” Singh said.
