Bihar: Flood situation worsens in Patna, water reaches more areas

The water level has increased in the last 24 hours while entering the Didarganj area located in the eastern part of the state capital. The most affected places are Sonama Panchayat, Khaspur, Jethuli and Punadih Panchayat.

In Patna district on Friday, the flood situation has become more serious as the water of the Ganges entered some more areas.

Residents of these villages are using boats to buy essential daily needs.

Saroj Kumar, a resident of Khaspur village, said, “We are struggling to buy food and other essential household items. Our cattle and pets are in starvation stage. Water has now entered our ground floor.”

Another villager Rahul Sharma said: “Patna Sahib MP Ravi Shankar Prasad visited our village on Thursday, but he did not give any assurance for facilitating the delivery of food and other household items. But apart from him, no other public representative came to the floodgates. Haven’t visited the affected areas of the area.”

Radhe Shyam Sharma said, “The power supply in this area has been stalled for the past few days and the residents of these villages are facing acute shortage of drinking water. Even the state government is not supplying water for consumption. Not distributing chlorine tablets to purify it. Resident of Sonma Panchayat.

“We need immediate government assistance to survive. More than 35,000 people have been affected by the floods,” Sharma said.

According to an official of the State Disaster Management Unit, 28 districts in north and central Bihar, including Patna, have been affected by floods this season. The other affected districts are East and West Champaran, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Sheohar, Saharsa, Kishanganj, Katihar, Purnia, Vaishali, Gopalganj, Siwan and Saran.
