Bihar announces Rs 1 lakh cash incentive for UPSC women candidates

Bihar government on Tuesday announced cash incentives for women candidates seeking central and state government jobs. The Nitish Kumar-led government will provide financial assistance to the candidates who qualify in the preliminary examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission and Bihar Public Service Commission for various services of the central and state government. The cash incentive will help the female candidates to prepare for the main exam and interview.

The Bihar cabinet approved this proposal in a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday. This decision was one of the 17 decisions taken during the cabinet meeting.

As per the earlier provisions by the Bihar government, only SC/ST and backward class candidates were being given incentives after clearing the preliminary examination of UPSC and BPSC. Now, the government has increased the incentive amount to encourage all the women candidates to prepare for the government jobs.

Under the incentive scheme run by the Bihar government for the past several years, the government provides Rs 50,000 to all those candidates and Rs 1 lakh to all the candidates who qualify the UPSC preliminary exam.

The decision to provide financial incentives to women candidates was taken two days after CM Kumar announced his Independence Day speech after hoisting the tricolor at Gandhi Maidan in Patna.

Nitish Kumar in his speech announced the extension of incentive schemes and said, Rs 50,000 will be given to all women candidates after passing the preliminary examination of the state civil services, and Rs 1 lakh if they qualify. Will be given All India Civil Services Examination.

He said that this decision taken by his government would definitely encourage girls and women of all castes in the state to prepare for civil services.
