10 died due to drinking spurious liquor in Bihar’s Gopalganj

As per reports, at least ten people have died in the last two days after allegedly consuming spurious liquor in Bihar. The incident is from Gopalganj district, where several others are seriously ill and have been admitted to the hospital.

Locals claimed that all the victims of Telhua village had consumed alcohol in Chamartoli area on Wednesday evening, but police have not confirmed this yet. However, a senior police officer said that all the eight dead have been identified.

Talking to reporters, Superintendent of Police Upendra Nath Verma said, “It is a case of unnatural death and more details will be known only after preliminary investigation.”

He said that senior officials of the district administration and police are camping in the village to inquire about the matter.

In a similar incident last month, eight people were killed in Muzaffarpur.

The Nitish Kumar government on 5 April 2016 had banned the manufacture, trade, storage, transport, sale and consumption of liquor in the state.

Kumar had said that the ban on liquor has been imposed in the interest of the society.
