The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) has sought action against Bigg Boss 16 contestant Vikas Manaktala for his alleged casteist remarks against co-contestant Archana Gautam. The remarks were made during an episode of the TV reality show that aired on Wednesday.
In a notice issued to the Government of Maharashtra, State Police, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Endemol India Pvt Ltd, Viacom18 Media Pvt Ltd and Colors TV, the commission said that it has taken suo motu cognizance of information received through social media regarding Mankatla calling Gautam a “low caste person”.
Gautam contested the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on a Congress ticket, but was defeated.
As per Indian law, the NCSC said, “It is clearly an offense punishable under the SC/ST Act, and the Commission has decided to investigate the matter in pursuance of the powers conferred under Article 338 of the Constitution of India.”
The notice said, “You are requested to submit an action taken report to the undersigned within seven days of the receipt of this notice.”
In a recent episode of Bigg Boss, Archana and Vikas locked horns due to which the former spilled hot water in the kitchen. Archana gets furious after Vikas enters the kitchen and puts the tea pot on the gas. Archana is seen cooking, and she gets irritated that Vikas was trying to move around whatever she was making.
Archana starts shouting at him what was he making. Things get out of hand and Archana overturns a pot, spilling water all over the kitchen as well as a pan where the oil was boiling. Before anyone gets hurt, the other housemates try to come in and calm them both down.
