BIG update on Aadhaar address change online: Check step by step process, fees and other details

New Delhi: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a resident-friendly feature to help the Head of Household (HOF) update address online in Aadhaar with his consent.

“HOF based online address update in Aadhaar will be of great help to the relative (like child, spouse, parent etc.) of a resident who does not have supporting documents in his/her own name to update the address in his/her Aadhaar, Ministry of Electronics and IT said in a release.

The process of change in Aadhaar address can be done by submitting proof of relationship document like ration card, mark sheet, marriage certificate, passport etc. mentioning the name and relationship between both the applicant and the HOF and OTP based authentication by the HOF. If the proof of relationship document is also not available, UIDAI provides the resident to submit a self-declaration by the HOF in the format prescribed by UIDAI.

“With people moving to cities and towns for various reasons within the country, such a facility would be beneficial for lakhs of people. This option would be in addition to the existing address update facility using any valid address proof prescribed by UIDAI,” The ministry’s release said.

Any resident above the age of 18 years can be a HOF for this purpose and can share his address with his relatives through this process.

How to update address online in Aadhaar with the consent of the Head of the Family (HOF)

Resident can choose this option to update address online in ‘My Aadhaar’ portal (https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in).

After which, the resident will be allowed to enter the Aadhaar number of the HOF, which will only be validated.

To maintain adequate confidentiality of the HOF, no other information on the basis of the HOF will be displayed on the screen.

After successful verification of Aadhaar number of HOF, resident will be required to upload proof of linkage document.

The resident has to pay a fee of Rs. 50 for the service.

On successful payment, a Service Request Number (SRN) will be shared with the resident, and an SMS will be sent to the HOF regarding the address requested.

Within 30 days from the date of receipt of the intimation, the HOF will accept the request and give its consent by logging into the My Aadhaar portal and the request will be processed.

If the HOF refuses to share its address, or does not accept or reject within the prescribed 30 days of SRN generation, the request will be closed. The resident, who wishes to update the address through this option, will be informed about the closure of the request through an SMS. If the request is closed or rejected due to non-approval of the HOF or rejected during processing, the amount will not be refunded to the applicant.
