Big statement on Jammu and Kashmir: Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in Rajya Sabha – Jammu and Kashmir will be given statehood when the situation becomes normal

The central government told Parliament on Wednesday that it would be given statehood when the situation in Jammu and Kashmir returns to normal. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said in the Rajya Sabha that a decision will be taken on this when the right time comes. He said this in a written reply to a question asked by Shiv Sena’s Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi.

The Minister of State for Home said that the Prime Minister had said the same thing while addressing the country. Recently, when representatives of different political parties met in Delhi on June 24, this question was raised again. I believe that the country and the people of Jammu and Kashmir should trust him. He said that shops, public transport, government offices, educational and health institutions, etc., are functioning normally in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

Terrorist incidents decreased in Jammu and Kashmir
MP Sasmit Patra had asked questions regarding terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. To this, Rai said that the incidents of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir have come down by 59% in 2020 as compared to 2019. Terrorism incidents have reduced by 31% till June 2021 as compared to 2020.

Search operation of security forces effective in Kashmir
He said that the government has a zero tolerance policy towards terrorism. Over the years, the government has taken several steps to strengthen the security here. Now the search operation of security forces in Kashmir has become effective. A large number of terrorists have been killed this year.

The reply was given by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the displacement of Kashmiri Pandits. The ministry said that at present 900 families of Kashmiri Pandits and Dogra Hindus are living in the valley.

The special status of Jammu and Kashmir ended on 5 August 2019.
On 5 August 2019, the Center abolished the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the state into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Since then the political situation has become unstable. Just 2 days before the abrogation of Article 370, the central government issued instructions to outsiders to leave Kashmir. After this thousands of tourists, migrant workers and students left Kashmir. The movement of around 5.20 lakh tourists was affected due to the restrictions. Hundreds of artisans, cab drivers, retailers and private sector workers became unemployed.

Government’s focus on infrastructure development
The Union Territory Government has focused on the infrastructure development of the state. Under this, a target has been set to complete 1,235 projects worth Rs 4545.06 crore in the financial year 2021-22. Besides, 1,100 projects worth Rs 1,555.16 crore have also been completed out of 2,357 sanctioned projects worth Rs 7,110.78 crore.
