Big news for boxers of Haryana. The World Boxing Men’s Championship to be held in Belgrade, Serbia has been postponed for some time. The registration for the championship was to be held by 20 September, but now its date has been extended till 4 October. Due to this, the event of the championship has been postponed for some time. Now the chances of it happening before December have diminished. Hence the boxers of Haryana are expected to get an opportunity to represent the country in this championship.

Competitions will be held in 13 weight categories

The registration period for the World Boxing Men’s Championship was from 28 August to 20 September. But now the registration date has been extended. After registration, it takes about two months to get the championship done. The championship was earlier expected to be held by November, which has now been postponed till December. There will be competitions in 13 weight categories in this championship. Earlier, the gold medalists of the national championship were to get direct entry. But now if the time is more, trials can also be taken after the national camp.

Haryanvi boxers hope

Not a single boxer from Haryana has been able to get a gold medal in the national championship. So the hope of getting a direct selection in the World Championship was over for him. But now 52 boxers in 13 weight categories in the Indian team will be kept in the national camp. 7 boxers from Haryana managed to make it to the national camp in the trials held on Thursday. Three boxers who won silver medals, Ankit Kumar in 51kg, Vineet Dahiya in 80kg and Naveen Jhajharia in 92kg have joined the National Camp. Sachin Siwach Junior in 57kg, Yashpal in 71kg and Sumit Sangwan in 86kg, who won all the three bronze medals in the trials, also made it to the national camp. Apart from this, Jugnu Ahlawat also managed to cement his place in the national camp in 92 kg.

Haryana boxers will get benefit

Advocate Rajnarayan Panghal, spokesperson of the Haryana Boxing Association, said that the boxer who won the gold medal in the national championship had to get an opportunity to play directly in the world championship to be held in Serbia. But now the championship has been postponed for some time. Therefore, the federation can select the team after trial among the boxers involved in the national camp. This will benefit the boxers of Haryana.
