Big News! Central Govt Hikes Rs 100 Subsidy On LPG Cylinders

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced that purchasing LPG cylinders will now be more easy as the government will now provide an additional Rs 100 as the subsidy to elevate the purchase of cylinders. The announcement comes ahead of the Lok Sabha Polls in 2023 and is being seen as a precursor to BJP’s election  campaign.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur made a groundbreaking announcement on Wednesday, revealing that the government had substantially augmented the subsidy allocation for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). This transformative decision raises the subsidy amount from ₹200 to ₹300 per LPG cylinder, significantly reducing the financial burden on recipients.

The information was given in a press conference by Union Minister Anurag Thakur. The announcement will effectively bring down the cost of the LPG cylinder to Rs 600. The payout will be done through the already running government’s scheme ‘Ujjwala Yojana’.

Relief for Ujjwala beneficiaries

Currently, under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, beneficiaries pay ₹703 for a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder, which is priced at ₹903 in the open market. However, following the Union Cabinet’s endorsement of this subsidy enhancement, Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries will now have a more economical option, with the cost per cylinder reduced to ₹603. This price reduction is set to offer substantial relief to those who rely on the Ujjwala Yojana to access clean cooking fuel.

Empowering household budgets

The augmented subsidy not only fosters greater access to clean and affordable LPG cylinders but also aligns with the government’s commitment to enhance the standard of living for citizens across the nation. By effectively cutting down the cost of LPG cylinders, this initiative bolsters household budgets and empowers families to allocate their resources more efficiently.

A Step towards cleaner, healthier homes

The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, launched in 2016, has been instrumental in transforming the lives of millions by ensuring access to clean cooking fuel. By increasing the subsidy, the government demonstrates its unwavering dedication to improving the well-being of its citizens and promoting a healthier, environmentally conscious lifestyle.
