The Central Government has appointed Dr. V Anantha Nageswaran as the new Chief Economic Adviser of the country. The Finance Ministry gave this information through a tweet on Friday. The Finance Ministry said that the government has appointed Dr. V Anantha Nageswaran as the new Chief Economic Adviser of the country and he has assumed his charge from today.

The appointment of the new Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) comes at a time when the government is scheduled to release the Economic Survey for the financial year 2021-22 on January 31, two days later. A day after this i.e. on February 1, the budget for the year 2022-23 is also to be presented.

KV Subramanian’s tenure as Chief Economic Advisor ended in December. Since then the new CEA had not been appointed till now. KV Subramanian was the country’s CEA for three years.

Who is Dr. V Ananth Nageswaran?
Dr. V Ananth Nageswaran did his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad in 1985. Then, in 1994, he earned a doctorate degree in finance from the University of Massachusetts. He has played a major role in research work for several Private Wealth Management Institutions in Switzerland. He has also been an executive of Credit Suisse AG and Julius Baer Group. He has been the Dean of IFMR Graduate School of Business. He was also a visiting professor of economics at KREA University.

Was also a member of the Advisory Council
Dr. Nageswaran has also taught at several business schools and management institutes in India and Singapore. His books have also been published extensively. He was the Dean of the IFMR Graduate School of Business from October 2018 to December 2019. In October 2019, he was also appointed a part-time member of the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council. He stayed here for two years.
