Big decision of central government: family will get compensation of Rs 50,000 on death due to corona, payment will be done through DBT in 30 days

The central government has taken a big decision to give compensation to the families of those who have died due to corona virus. The Center told the Supreme Court on Wednesday that a compensation of Rs 50,000 will be given to the family on death due to corona. For this, it will be mandatory to show the death certificate from Corona.

Apart from the compensation, the central government also told the court that a committee would also be constituted to resolve the complaints regarding the deaths due to corona. This committee will work at the district level. It also includes those people who were involved in the relief work of Corona.

Supreme Court gave instructions to NDMA
In June, the Supreme Court ordered the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to frame guidelines for payment of compensation to the kin of those who died due to Corona. The Supreme Court had given 6 weeks to NDMA for this. The amount of compensation was also to be decided by NDMA itself.

The court also gave instructions regarding the death certificate
In another petition in the Supreme Court, it was demanded that the families of those who died due to corona do not have any evidence of this. Therefore, death from corona should be included in the death certificate. The court had said on this that the date and cause of death should be included in the death certificate of those who died of corona, as well as a separate arrangement should be made for its redressal if the family is not satisfied.

Suicides also get benefits
In the directions given to the central government, the court had also said that those people who were suffering from the epidemic and committed suicide during this period should also be included in the compensation for the deaths due to corona.

DDMA will distribute compensation within 30 days
In the instructions issued by the NDMA, it has also been said that the distribution of compensation will be done through the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA). DDMA will dispose of the application within 30 days from the date of receipt of application from the family of the deceased. Compensation will be done through Aadhaar Linked Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) process.

What did the petitioner say?
The petition was filed in the Supreme Court on behalf of two lawyers Gaurav Kumar Bansal and Ripak Kansal. Both said that Section 12 of the National Disaster Management Act provides for government compensation for the people who die in the disaster.

Last year, the Center had asked all the states to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to those who died of corona. This year it has not been done. In response to this, the Center had said that due to Corona, the states are already spending a lot. It would not be right to put the burden of compensation on them.
