BHUBANESWAR: The Commissionerate Police has entrusted the nodal officers with the task of conducting regular interactions with the slum dwellers and gathering intelligence about the criminals residing in those areas to improve the policing. In the first phase, foot patrolling will be intensified in 11 identified slums.
“We recently launched basti ku chal Or community policing in slums. Taking it to the next level, we have appointed a nodal officer for each slum. Eleven slums have been taken for outreach programme,” Deputy Commissioner of Police Uma Shankar Dash Said. The move comes a week after a violent group clash between two gangs of anti-social elements in a slum under Mancheshwar police limits.
“During our analysis, we found that 90% of property-related crimes were related to slums. After committing the crime, the accused took shelter in the slum. Many accused from other places also take huts on rent in slums.
