Thane: A 16-year-old mentally challenged girl was allegedly raped by her uncle Bhiwandi, police said on Monday.
The incident took place in Bhiwandi area here on Friday and the 48-year-old accused was arrested on Sunday, an official of Bhiwandi taluka police station said.
The officer, without giving any further details about the incident, said that the girl informed her parents about the crime following which they lodged a complaint with the Bhiwandi taluka police station.
Police said the victim was medically examined.
Later the accused was arrested and a case was registered against him. Indian Penal Code Section 376 (Rape) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, the official said.
