A day after the Election Commission reprimanded BJP candidate Priyanka Tibrewal, who is contesting the Bhawanipur bypoll, for violating the COVID-19 safety protocol, her Chief Election Agent (CEA) Sajal Ghosh on Thursday filed a complaint against her rival West Bengal Chief Minister. Lodged. Mamata Banerjee. Tibrewal’s CEA has alleged that Banerjee bribed voters at Bhawanipur Gurdwara.
In a letter to the Returning Officer, Ghosh said, “Mamata Banerjee visited Bhawanipur Gurdwara on September 15 with a large number of people chasing her with flags and vehicles following the rules and regulations laid down by the Election Commission. Was more. His supporters were seen flouting the rules of Kovid. He visited the religious place by offering prasad at Bhawanipur Gurdwara at 10A Harish Mukherjee Road, Gokhale Road, influenced voters and paid bribe.
Ghosh also urged the Election Commission to remove the officer-in-charge of Alipore and Bhawanipore police stations, accusing the officer of “acting with a political vendetta and at the behest of a particular political party”.
Tibrewal’s complaint against Mamta came after Returning officer of Bhabnipur assembly constituency sent notice Stating that he had violated the model code of conduct and COVID-19 safety norms on the day of filing of nominations on September 13. The notice also asked him to explain why permission for his other rallies should not be withdrawn.
In his reply to the Election Commission, Tibrewal said that he has followed all the COVID protocols and the allegations against him were false.
“I am not aware of any cars following me that could cause overcrowding. Only Suvendu was the officer’s car. How do I stop public cars? I went to interact with the residents of the ward and participated in the kirtan organized by the local residents,” she said.
Tibrewal said he had received a notice from the Election Commission as Banerjee had filed a complaint against him challenging his nomination.
On 14 September, the BJP alleged that the chief minister hid pending criminal cases against him in his nomination papers for the Bhawanipur by-election.
“I had challenged her nomination and hence, she (Mamata) filed a complaint against me for harassing me. I don’t need to be afraid of anything because the people of Bhabnipur are with me.
He also said that he was wrongly quoted when he said that he had received several such letters relating to the Election Commission notices against him.
“My statement as a lawyer was that I received 100 letters, I read 150 and ignored 200. My remarks had nothing to do with the Election Commission notice to me. I did nothing about or against the Election Commission. No. I was quoted wrongly,” she said during the election campaign in Bhabnipur.
Targeting CMHe said, ‘Thanks to the BJP, Mamta Banerjee is going to the temple these days. Once his party leader Firhad Hakim defined an area of Kolkata as ‘Mini Pakistan’. She talks about Pakistan too.”
