Bhawanipur by-election: Mamta will start campaigning from today; BJP sent 6 names, Congress said it will not field candidates

West Bengal Chief Minister, Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee From Wednesday, Bhawanipur is all set to start its campaign for the assembly by-elections.

The Election Commission announced that by-elections will be held on September 30 in three assembly seats in West Bengal – Bhabnipur, Jangipur and Samserganj.

Meanwhile, the TMC on Sunday officially announced that CM Banerjee is the party’s candidate for the Bhabnipur assembly, which is also their traditional seat. It was vacated by West Bengal Agriculture Minister Shobhneb Chattopadhyay in May, making way for Mamata Banerjee to contest from the seat.

Why Bhawanipur by-election is important for CM Banerjee?

To remain the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee will have to win the Bhawanipur by-election. Banerjee was defeated by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram assembly constituency in the assembly elections held earlier this year. She will now contest from Bhabnipur seat where polling is to be held on September 30.

TMC leaders Zakir Hussain and Amirul Islam will be the party’s candidates for Jangipur and Samserganj seats respectively. Counting of votes will take place on October 3.

Meanwhile, the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) proposed six names to the party leadership in Delhi to pick a candidate against CM Banerjee from Bhawanipur and the Congress announced that it would not field any candidate against the chief minister. Hindustan Times informed of.

The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC won 213 seats in the 294-member West Bengal assembly. Despite aggressive campaigning, the BJP lost the election but emerged as the second largest party with 77 seats.
