The march started from Kanyakumari on 7 September and entered Jammu and Kashmir via Punjab on 19 January.

“Bharat Jodo Yatra will resume from Banihal tomorrow morning. Congress General Secretary, Communications Jairam Ramesh told reporters after finalizing Friday’s schedule for the march, “We will cover the distance which we could not do yesterday.”

The yatra will enter the Kashmir Valley on Friday for its final leg before culminating in a rally in Srinagar on January 30.

Ramesh said that the yatra has passed through different districts of Jammu and covered a distance of about 90 kms.

“The Yatra has received a good response wherever we went. People of all ages, genders and walks of life have realized that Rahul Gandhi’s message is of unity, love and harmony.”

Ramesh said he is hopeful of a good response to the yatra in Anantnag and Srinagar districts as well.

“Rahul Gandhi will hold a press conference in Srinagar before the rally on January 30, which will mark the culmination of the yatra,” he said.

Ramesh said the Yatra was a “revolutionary” change in Indian politics.

“It’s not like an event Narendra Modi does, but marks a radical change for Indian politics. It is a mass movement which will strengthen the Congress party as well as create awareness among the people.

Responding to a question, the Congress leader said that statehood should be restored to Jammu and Kashmir.

“There are examples in our country where union territories were given statehood. Jammu and Kashmir is the only state which has been made a Union Territory. Statehood should be restored to Jammu and Kashmir, while Ladakh should be brought under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.”

The march started from Kanyakumari on 7 September and entered Jammu and Kashmir via Punjab on 19 January.

The marathon march will culminate with Gandhi unfurling the national flag at the party headquarters in Srinagar and addressing a grand rally at Sher-e-Kashmir. Cricket Stadium 30 January.
