Bengaluru: Teacher, Her Adult Sons Set Themselves On Fire

Bengaluru: In a tragic incident, a 48-year-old school teacher and her twin sons on Wednesday morning set themselves on fire and allegedly committed suicide inside their JP Nagar residence, in Bengaluru.

According to the police, the initial investigation revealed that the family was under financial duress following which they have taken this step.

The police have identified the deceased as a teacher Sukanya (48), while her twin sons, Nikhit (28) and Nishit (28), were a techie and an animator. Notably, Nikhit was disabled. The family hailed from Ambalapadi in Udupi district.

“The teacher’s husband was facing huge financial loss in his business – a wooden dyeing manufacturing unit that was forced to close due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Jayanand had to borrow money from the private lenders and other banks due to the financial losses”, they said.

“Furthermore, the lenders started visiting his house to demand repayment. This may have been a contributing factor following which the deceased took this step”, police said.

They said that Jayanand was reading the newspaper in the hall when his neighbors rushed towards his house due to the thick smoke coming out from the bedroom window.

Following the opening the door, three charred bodies were recovered from the spot. More details are underway, police added.
