Bengaluru Metro Pillar Collapse: Karnataka HC Gives BMRCL Two Weeks to Respond on Accident

Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and others to issue notice in a PIL filed by it on the death of two people due to the collapse of an under-construction Metro pillar. Here. BMRCL was given two weeks time to respond in the court.

The state government, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), chief engineer of BMRCL and Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited are the other respondents in the case.

The High Court had initiated a suo motu public interest litigation following the death of software engineer Tejaswini and her two-year-old son on January 13 when a pillar fell on a two-wheeler they were traveling near Hennur main road. January 10 in the city

A division bench of Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice S Vishwajit Shetty heard the plea that the court itself had directed the Registrar General to take the initiative.

Initiating the PIL earlier this month, the high court had said it was taking cognizance of the news reports about the incident. “These news have prompted us to take cognizance of the incident wherein the unfortunate death of a woman and child son in the condition of the roads, this issue raises concern and questions for the public at large.”
Meanwhile, BMRCL had suspended three engineers and issued a notice to its contractor Nagarjuna Construction Company. The police had registered a case against nine people, including officials of BMRCL.
