BENGALURU: Around 5,000 people were given the Kovidshield vaccine in a free vaccination campaign organized by MPL Sports Foundation with the support of Manipal Hospital and Minister ST Somashekar on Thursday kengeri.
Manipal Hospitals had planned to cover 5,000 people in one camp in a single day and it achieved that goal. In this campaign that started at 9.30 am, people started queuing from 6.30 am.
Pramod Kunder, Hospital Director, Manipal Hospital, Malleswaram, (Manipal Hospital Northside) said, “Although the number of non-Covid patients in our hospital has increased, we managed to send some of our highly trained nurses for this initiative as immunization of many citizens was our focus. Nurse, a doctor and an ambulance. A shelter was built to ensure that the rain did not cause inconvenience to the vaccine seekers.After vaccination, juice and food were provided to the recipients.
Dr Kavi Prasad, who oversaw the initiative, said, “Initially we had some technical glitches with the Co-Win portal, but it was quickly resolved. The campaign went smoothly. Priority was given to the elderly and disabled. In fact, the first person to take the jab was a blind man. “At one time there were 20 vaccination centers and 20 people were vaccinated. Minister Somashekar inaugurated the campaign. “The floating population at the site was 500 to 600, but with the help of a few volunteers, we tried to maintain social distancing and other COVID norms,” Prasad said.
