Bengal: Polling underway in Bengal by-polls – Bhabanipur, 2 other constituencies. India News – Times of India

Kolkata: Voting for by-elections Bhabnipur assembly seat, where West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Kolkata is fighting elections from 7 am on Thursday amid tight security and necessary arrangements in case water-logging continues due to heavy rains a day earlier.

BJP candidate from Bhawanipur Priyanka Tibrewal alleged that Trinamool Congress (TMC) is deliberately shutting down voting machines and trying to capture booths at a polling booth in ward number 72.
Tiberwal reached the polling booth to take stock of the situation.
Talking to media persons here, Tibrewal said, “TMC’s Madan Mitra has deliberately switched off the voting machine here as he wants to capture the booth.”
All eyes are on Bhawanipur bypoll as Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is contesting from here. CPM has fielded its candidate Srijab Biswas from this seat.
The by-election in Bhawanipur was necessitated after MLA Sovandeb Chattopadhyay resigned, paving the way for Banerjee to become an MLA from the constituency. 2021 in the west Bengal In the election, Banerjee contested from Nandigram assembly constituency and was defeated by her confidant Suvendu Adhikari of the rival BJP.
The election was canceled after the death of two candidates in Jangipur and Samsarganj.
Voting could not be held in Samserganj on 26 April due to the death of Congress candidate Rezaul Haque during the seventh phase of West Bengal assembly elections.
Similarly, polling could not be held in Jangipur due to the death of Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) candidate from Pradeep Nandi.
TMC leaders Zakir Hussain and Amirul Islam are the party’s candidates from Jangipur and Samserganj seats respectively. The CPI(M) has fielded Mohammad Modsar Hussain from Samsarganj seat and Zain Alam Migya from Jangipur. Milan Ghosh is the BJP candidate from Samserganj, while Sujit Das will contest from Jangipur. On the directions of the Election Commission, Kolkata Police imposed restrictions under section 144 of CrPC within 200 meters of polling stations in Bhawanipur assembly constituency from Tuesday evening. This restriction will remain in force till the end of voting for the by-election at 6 pm today.
A total of 6,97,164 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise in the three constituencies of West Bengal and the counting of votes will take place on October 3.
