Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee shares stage with Prashant Kishor, sparks speculation of rift

new Delhi: TMC supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee shared the stage with election strategist Prashant Kishor at a party meeting on Tuesday, dismissing rumors of a break-up with I-PAC.

News agency PTI reported that TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee was also on stage during the organizational meeting of TMC at Nazrul Manch.

The TMC supremo, who announced the formation of a new state committee, was seen interacting with Kishor at the event.

TMC leader Sudip Bandopadhyay was quoted by PTI in his report as saying, “There were some reports of differences brewing between I-PAC and TMC. But nothing is stable in politics. Situations change with time. It is good that We are all working together.” ,

Last month, a spat broke out in the Trinamool Congress over the list of candidates for the civic polls, leading to alleged tension in the ties between the TMC and the Kishor-led I-PAC. Then reports had said that the two may separate.

Although the I-PAC dismissed the media’s allegations as “baseless”, several top TMC leaders claimed that the I-PAC and Kishor were interfering in the internal affairs of the party.

After its dismal performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, TMC recruited Kishor and his firm I-PAC to formulate its campaign and election strategy for the 2021 West Bengal Assembly elections.

After the party’s resounding victory in the assembly elections last year, it extended the contract of I-PAC till 2026.

At the event, Mamata Banerjee reconstituted the West Bengal State Committee, packing it mainly with old-time loyalists.

Banerjee appointed Subrata Bakshi as the party’s state president and Partha Chatterjee as the general secretary. Ministers Firhad Hakim and Arup Biswas have been appointed as two of the 19 general secretaries of the state unit.
