Due to some circumstances, I had to contest from Kaliaganj on a BJP ticket. But my soul and heart belong to TMC, Soumen Roy said.

BJP MLA from Kaliyaganj Soumen Roy joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in Kolkata on Saturday in the presence of Minister of State and party leader Partha Chatterjee.

Justifying his return to the Mamata Banerjee party, Soumen Roy said, “I had to contest from Kaliaganj on a BJP ticket due to some circumstances. But my soul and heart belong to TMC. I would like to support the efforts of CM Mamata Banerjee. I’m sorry to party for the time I wasn’t here.”

Since the return of the TMC government in West Bengal, many leaders who came from TMC to BJP before the assembly elections have returned to the party.

In the West Bengal Assembly elections of 2021, there was a fierce competition between TMC and BJP. The latter party emerged as the main opposition party in the state, but fell short of its target of securing over 200 seats, a figure that was claimed throughout the campaign.

On the other hand Mamta Banerjee party emerged stronger by winning more seats as compared to its previous term.
