Belagavi: ICMR-NITM is developing herbal solution for COVID-19. Hubli News – Times of India

Belagavi : national institute of traditional medicine Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR-NITM) Belagavi Working on herbal solution for covid-19.
The results of the two studies have been peer-reviewed and published in international journals.
In a bioinformatic study, scientists found that three formulations containing eight plants prevented the virus from entering humans.
In an in-vitro study, they investigated whether the formulations could inhibit the interaction between the human host and virus proteins. The researchers plan for three more studies before reaching any conclusions.
The sources are named NITM-41, 42 and 43 and the scientists initially studied 16 plants.
“The team first studied the plants using contemporary, traditional and archived literature. NITM. Later, three formulations were finalized from eight plants. In the invitro study, the formulation displayed promising results,” said a scientist working on the project.
The results were published in journals such as Frontiers in Medicine, Journal of Biomolecular Structure and Dynamics, Phytotherapy Research and Phytomedicine.
Now, scientists have to do further research to produce a pseudo-non-infectious virus.
They are also studying these formulations on hamsters with the help of a Delhi-based scientist. Amit Awasthi.
Finally, the formulation is to be studied in an active virus model, which requires the BSL-3 facility. There is no such facility in Belagavi.
Director of ICMR-NITM Dr. Debprasad Chattopadhyay When contacted, he said that he would not be able to divulge any details about the project as it is still underway.
