Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnav today said spectrum auction for 5G services is the beginning of a new era for Indian telecom.

The remark assumes significance as the Union Cabinet has approved the modalities for auctioning 5G spectrum and putting 72 GHz radio waves in the block by the end of July.

The auction of spectrum will start from July 26, 2022.

The cabinet also approved the development and installation of ‘Private Captive Networks’ to enable the development and installation of ‘Private Captive Networks’ to fuel the wave of innovation in new age industry applications such as Machine-to-Machine Communication, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI). decision made. in the automotive, healthcare, agriculture, energy and other sectors.

He wrote that the telecommunications reform agenda would be continued to enable the development and establishment of private captive networks.

The cabinet has approved 5G auction at the reserve prices recommended by sector regulator TRAI.

TRAI had recommended a reduction of about 39 per cent in the reserve or minimum price for the sale of 5G spectrum for mobile services.

All spectrum available in the 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2500 MHz, 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands are part of the auction.

Altogether 72097.85 MHz spectrum has been auctioned. The auction will be a Simultaneous Multiple Round Ascending (SMRA) e-auction.

The spectrum obtained through this auction can be surrendered after a period of at least ten years. This time there will be no Spectrum Usage Charge (SUC) for the spectrum received.

The spectrum will be assigned for a period of 20 years.

The requirement of submission of Financial Bank Guarantee (FBG) and Performance Bank Guarantee (PBG) for a successful bidder has been done away with.

The licensees can set up separate captive non-public networks for industries using the spectrum obtained through this auction.
