Beating Retreat: Military Band Plays ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo’, 1000 Drones Light Up Sky | Watch

New Delhi: The ‘Beating the Retreat’ ceremony, marking the formal culmination of the Republic Day celebrations, was held at Vijay Chowk in the national capital on Saturday.

President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Army Chief Manoj Mukund Naravane, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar, and Air Force Chief Air Marshal VR Choudhary attended the ceremony along with several other dignitaries.

Other tunes included in the ceremony are Kerala, Hind Ki Sena Together Qadam Qadam Badhaye Ja And Saare Jahan Se Accha. Qadam Qadam Badhaye Ja Written by Vanshidhar Shukla and composed by Ram Singh Thakuri. The song was popularly a quick march of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj. Saare Jahan Se Accha Muhammad Iqbal wrote.

Notably, for the first time in over 70 years, Mahatma Gandhi’s favorite hymn’support me‘ did not resonate at Vijay Chowk. Ae Mere Watan Ke LogonThis year replaced the popular hymn, written by poet Pradeep, in memory of the supreme sacrifice made by Indian soldiers during the 1962 Indo-China war.

Drone Formation and Laser Projection

A thousand Made-in-India drones made various structures at the ceremony creating an enthralling visual spectacle.

The drone show was organized by startup Botlab Dynamics and supported by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and the Department of Science and Technology.

India’s freedom struggle and the country’s journey since independence were narrated using laser projection.

The Beating Retreat Ceremony is a centuries-old military tradition, dating back to the days when soldiers broke away from battle at sunset. As soon as the buglers called for a retreat, the soldiers stopped fighting, put down their weapons and withdrew from the battlefield.

During Republic Day celebrations, bands march back, playing a popular martial tune and the official march of the armed forces, Sare Jahan Se Accha, Beating Retreat Ceremony is organized at sunset on 29th January, three days after Republic Day.
