It has been over a month since the BCCI invited applications for the post of national selectors for its senior men’s cricket team, but the ‘sacked’ panel continues to perform duties. As per reports, the board is struggling to invite ‘top names’ and hence another extension has been given to the final committee.

Clearly, a package of Rs 1.25 crore for the role of chairman and Rs 1 crore for other members is no longer considered attractive.

And this means that Chetan Sharma, the chairman of the previous committee, may retain his role or come back as a representative, while his center colleague Harvinder Singh is also in the running.

“Chetan has a good chance of retaining either as the president or at least as the representative of North Zone if he is willing to work under the new president, whoever it may be. The truth is that BCCI is not getting the name of any top. It is not that he has not given voice to anyone. Why would Chetan apply if he didn’t have the chance? Some assurance would have been given,” a BCCI source said.
