BCCI President Sourav Ganguly rubbishes his report of issuing show cause notice to Virat Kohli

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has dismissed reports that claimed he wanted to issue a show-cause notice to Virat Kohli for his comments he made during a press briefing last December. Kohli, then India’s Test captain, had pointed out the lack of communication between Ganguly and the selectors, apart from dismissing Ganguly’s claim that the board had asked him not to step down from the T20I captaincy.

Ganguly told the news agency, “The reports of me issuing show cause notice to Virat Kohli are not true.” years on Friday.

East, India Forward News Quoting sources close to the development, Ganguly was “to issue a show-cause notice to Kohli”.

According to the report, Ganguly discussed it with members of the BCCI before considering it inappropriate to issue a notice to Kohli a few days before the South Africa Test series.

Ahead of the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Kohli, in a surprising development, had announced that he would step down as India’s captain after the event. Later in December last year, he was also replaced as the ODI captain and earlier this month, he also relinquished the Test captaincy after the series loss to South Africa.

According to media reports, Kohli called up BCCI General Secretary Jay Shah before announcing his decision to resign as Test captain, but he did not call Ganguly.

In a tweet, the Board President paid tribute to Kohli for the achievements he has achieved during his captaincy tenure.

“Indian cricket under Virat’s leadership has made rapid strides in all formats of the game… His decision is a personal one and the BCCI respects it a lot… He will be a key member of the team to take this team to new heights in the future. a great player. Well done… @BCCI @imVkohli,” wrote Ganguly.
