BCCI announces hike in match fees for domestic cricketers

BCCI secretary Jay Shah has announced that the board is going to increase the match fee for domestic cricketers. Domestic players who have played more than 40 matches will now get INR 60,000 while Under 23 players will earn INR 25,000 and Under 19 cricketers INR 20,000. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took a welcome decision for domestic cricketers during its Apex Council meeting on Monday, 20 September.

It was also announced that cRicketters participating in the 2019-20 domestic season will get an additional 50 per cent match fee as compensation for the season 2020-21 that has been lost due to the COVID-19 situation.

The move is likely to benefit over 2,000 male cricketers from under-16 to senior level.

Prior to Monday’s decision, the first XI players in a Ranji Trophy game were entitled to Rs 35,000 per day. For Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy BCCI pays Rs. 17,500 per game. The BCCI also announced remuneration for women cricketers and senior players will now be paid Rs 20,000 per match instead of Rs 12,500.

The recommendation to increase the payment was made by an executive committee comprising former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin, Yudhveer Singh, Santosh Menon, Jaydev Shah, Avishek Dalmiya, Rohan Jaitley and Devjit Saikia.

When Sourav Ganguly took over as the BCCI President, he had floated the idea of ​​state units to bring in a contracting system for domestic cricketers. Had that been the case, the domestic players would not have suffered last year, when the season was cut short due to the raging pandemic. Right now, only the players playing in Ranji Trophy are without pay since March 2020.

India’s domestic season will begin on September 21, 2021 with the Senior Women’s One Day League and will be followed by the Senior Women’s One Day Challenger Trophy, which will take place from October 27, 2021.

The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will begin on October 20, 2021, with the final played on November 12, 2021. The coveted Ranji Trophy, which was canceled last season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be played over three months. Window from November 16, 2021. till February 19, 2022. The Vijay Hazare Trophy will be held from February 23, 2022 to March 26, 2022.

A total of 2127 home games will be played in different age groups in the men’s and women’s categories this season.
