Australian limited overs captain Aaron Finch has confirmed that he is set to play for the Melbourne Renegades match against Perth Scorchers on 22 December at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne. The 35-year-old has missed the first three matches of the Renegades, taking time to recover from a knee injury after leading Australia to their maiden T20 World Cup title.

The Renegades’ all-time leading run-scorer Finch has now confirmed that he is ready to play.

“I’ll play. I’ll hit a lot of deliveries over the next few days but it’s all looking good at the moment. I trained the other day. I haven’t done a lot of running or anything, but I batted and felt great. I’ll have a pretty solid hit-out and a good field today,” Finch told media persons on Monday.

“We worked really hard to get back (for the World Cup) and it was a risk worth taking. It probably needed a little more time and it’s been a good month of rehabilitation in (my knee) since the end of the World Cup which has helped.

The Renegades will play three straight games at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium with back-to-back clashes against the Scorchers on December 22 and 26, followed by the Hobart Hurricanes on December 29.

Finch, the second-highest run-scorer in BBL history, will cement the Renegades’ inexperienced top-order after a slow start to the season with the bat.

After finishing last in the last two campaigns, the Renegades won a nail-biting opener against Adelaide on the final ball, before suffering consecutive defeats to the Strikers and Brisbane Heat.
