It is claimed that there are 2.55 lakh beds, only 90 thousand less; 4 lakhs increasing.

The second wave of corona infection in the country may not have ended yet, but the Empowered Group-1 and 2, created by the central government to deal with the epidemic, have prepared a roadmap for preparations to deal with the third wave. According to informed sources, Empowered Groups estimates that while 4.14 lakh new patients were found in a day at the peak of the second wave, up to 6.21 lakh patients can be found in a day at the peak of the third wave.

If the number of active patients reaches 1 crore in a day, a blueprint has been prepared for what will be the requirements. According to estimates, then 69 thousand people will need ICU beds and 3.45 lakh people will need oxygen beds. Government figures of the available resources show that if the situation worsens, about 90 thousand oxygen beds will fall short.

The good thing is that there is preparation to deal with it. The work to be done from the emergency fund of 23,130 crore approved by the cabinet on Thursday also includes increasing 20 thousand ICU beds. Along with this, 4 lakh oxygen beds will be increased through 1500 oxygen plants. However, the same figure of bed availability was given in the second wave as well. Still there was a shortage of oxygen beds.

  • Claim: There are 2.55 lakh beds, 90 thousand are less… 4 lakh are increasing… and truth: The maximum one day 37.4 lakh active patients were on 10 May in the second wave. Even then 2.55 lakh oxygen beds were available in the government figures. 20% of the patients i.e. 7.49 lakh needed the hospital and its 15% i.e. 1.12 lakh needed oxygen beds. Still there was an outcry.

If 12 lakh children get sick, then 3 thousand may get MIS-C

It has been said in the report that if 12 lakh children fall ill, then only 5% i.e. 60 thousand may need to be hospitalized. Even 5% of them i.e. three thousand are suspected to have Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (MIS-C).

2500 crore medicine will be procured for the third wave

Estimation: 23% of active patients will need hospitalization… in the second wave only 15-20%

In the third wave, if the cases increase rapidly, 23% of the active patients may need to go to the hospital. In the second wave 15-20% of the patients had to go to the hospital. If there are one crore active patients, then 23 lakh will need a hospital.

  • 3% i.e. 69 thousand will need ICU beds. At present there are 75,867 ICU beds.
  • 15% i.e. 3.45 lakh will need oxygen beds. According to the figures, 2.55 lakh oxygen beds are available in the country at present.
  • 5% i.e. 1.15 lakh will need isolation beds. At present 4.95 lakh isolation beds are available in the country.
