Barbie Box Office Collection Day 3: Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, has taken over the world. The film grossed US$155 million in its opening weekend, the biggest opening ever for a film directed by a woman. The film, starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, was released on July 21 opposite Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer. Not just in India, Barbie has created several other records at the box office, including the biggest opening weekend of the year – beating ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ (US$146 million).

Barbie cost US$145 million, not including the marketing campaign that catapulted the film into the mainstream long before it hit theaters. Gerwig, the Oscar-nominated director of “Lady Bird” and “Little Women,” co-wrote the film with Noah Baumbach.

Indian box office report of Barbie

about barbie

Prior to its release, Barbie got into soup for a number of reasons. The makers were criticized for an overly woke story about children’s dolls. Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling play stereotypical versions of Barbie and Ken, who leave the world of Barbieland in search of self-discovery in the real world. Following the trailer’s release, Barbie was banned in several countries, including Vietnam, after the world map in Barbie Land looked childlike. Barbie also stars America Ferrera, Hari Neff, Will Ferrell, Simu Liu and Issa Rae.

The film is produced by NB/GG Pictures, LuckyChap Entertainment, Heyday Films and Mattel Films and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures.
