Bappi Lahiri’s ashes immersed in Kolkata, son Bappa Lahiri says ‘he was the son of Bengal’

The entire industry and his fans are in shock with the untimely demise of Bappi Lahiri. The disco king of India left for his heavenly abode on February 15 at the age of 69. He was cremated at the Vile Parle crematorium in Mumbai on February 17, and according to the latest reports, his ashes have been immersed in the Ganges. Talking to India Today, his son Bappa Lahiri said, ‘My grandparents were also cremated here. He was the son of Bengal. We are proud to be Bengali. We are doing his last rites here with the love of all of you. Many people have come here to welcome us. In fact it was my first visit without my father’s presence.”

He further expressed that the great singer-composer wanted his ashes to be immersed in Kolkata like that of his parents.

Last month, in an interview with ETimes, Bappa had said that his father’s voice was still “echoing” in his ears. Still in shock and disbelief at his father’s death, Bappa said that he “couldn’t digest it”. Talking about Bappi Da’s legacy, he said that a young boy from Calcutta built a musical empire solely by relying on his talent as no producer or camp supported him. He said that Bappi Da’s contribution is huge in the careers of many successful actors.

Born Alokesh Lahiri, music composer credited as a pioneer of synthesized disco music in Indian cinema during the 1970s to 1990s, including “I’m a Disco Dancer”, “Jimmy Jimmy”, “Paag Ghungroo”, ” Songs like “Inteha Ho Gayi”. , “Tamma Tamma Loge”, “Yaar Bina Chain Kahan Re”, “Tonight Jaaye Toh” and “Chalte Chalte” etc.

Bappi Lahiri last worked on “Ganpati Bappa Morya” in September 2021. He composed the music for the devotional song, which was voiced by US-based Indian singer Anuradha Juju Palkurthi.
