New Delhi: As per the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), with the onset of the festive season, banks across the country remained closed and in the coming week from Monday, October 18, banks would not function for six days.

Banks remained closed for 11 days in the first fortnight of the month. Banks remained closed on Saturday, 16 October on the occasion of Durga Puja in Gangtok, Sikkim, while banks across the country remained closed on 17 October being a Sunday.

Banks will remain closed for 21 bank holidays in October.

October 18: Banks to remain closed on the occasion of Kati Bihu in the northeastern state of Guwahati

October 19: On the occasion of Eid-e-Milad, which is the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad, banks will remain closed in New Delhi, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Chennai, Dehradun, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi. Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Raipur, Ranchi, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram.

October 20: Banks will remain closed in Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Shimla, Kolkata and Agartala on the occasion of Valmiki Jayanti.

October 22: Banks to remain closed in Jammu and Srinagar on account of Eid-e-Milad-ul-Nabi

23 October: Banks will remain closed across India due to fourth Saturday.

October 24: Banks will remain closed due to Sunday.

The RBI classifies holidays into three categories: holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and real-time gross settlement holidays and bank account closures. Banks across the country were closed for a total of 12 days in September.
