Bank Holidays in August: Banks will be closed for 9 days in the last 2 weeks, check dates

In the event that you are planning a visit to your local public sector or private sector bank in the coming weeks, you should be careful. NS reserve Bank of India (RBI) released a list of holidays for the month of August, in which a total of 8 days were allotted as holidays for lenders across India. With 7 days off due to weekends, banks and their customers were facing a total of 15 holidays since the beginning of the month. As of Wednesday, the number of Bank holiday Only 9 days are left. Out of the remaining holidays, 6 of them are state wise according to holidays, religious festivals or festivals rbi list of bank holidays. The other three are the usual weekend leaves – two Sundays and the fourth Saturday of the month.

The holiday list for this month started from 1st August itself, however RBI’s holiday list started only on 13th August, which was Patriot’s Day. The list of holidays in the RBI list can be classified under the category of ‘Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act’. Other classifications for RBI holidays are ‘Holidays under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays’ and ‘Banks’ Closing of Accounts’.

The holidays issued by RBI for lenders across India are not a uniform phenomenon. Instead, they are divided according to state wise ceremonies. Consequently, these holidays will not be applicable for all days off at all banks, which gives customers little room to breathe and conduct their banking business throughout the month of August. The list of holidays consists of only two days which are observed by most of the states and cities. One is 19th August which is Muharram (Ashura). This holiday is celebrated in 17 cities. These cities are Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bhopal, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi and Srinagar.

The other major holiday is celebrated at the end of the month on 30 August, which is Janmashtami (Shravan Vad-8) / Krishna Jayanti. Lenders will take a holiday on this day in a total of 15 cities across India. These cities are Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Lucknow, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar and Gangtok.

With that in mind, be careful when you plan your next trip to the bank, this month there are only 9 days left to plan, which makes things a little lighter. However, the next five days are successive holidays, so check out the list below to see if these holidays apply in your city.

3) August 21, 2021 – Thiruvonam (Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi)

4) 22 August 2021 – Sunday

5) August 23, 2021 – Sree Narayana Guru Jayanti (Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi)

6) August 28, 2021 – Fourth Saturday

7) August 29, 2021 – Sunday
