Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque sets the Cannes red carpet on fire with her Dhakai Jamdani saree – Times of India

After skipping cinematic festivals in 2020, Festival de Cannes is back in 2021 to celebrate the best of the world’s cinema in the most stylish way possible! The world’s biggest film festival has begun in the French Riviera and the red carpet is on fire. While many stylish looks have already been showcased at the festival, one appearance that is making headlines is Azmeri Haq Badho, the popular actress from Bangladesh.

Badho’s film ‘Rehana Mariam Noor’ was screened at Cannes and Azmeri threw a beautiful surprise on the red carpet. The actress, who was in Cannes to attend the screening of the film in which she played the lead, picked up a sari for her Cannes debut.

It was a proud moment for the Bangladeshi film industry as the film received a standing ovation at the 74th Cannes Film Festival. However, what grabbed everyone’s attention and garnered applause was Azmeri’s stunning traditional red carpet look.

The actress wore a traditional beige colored Dhakai Jamdani saree and she looked gorgeous. The saree was from Bangladeshi brand Aaron. The Jamdani sari featured hand-woven motifs and she teamed it with a halter-neck blouse that featured silver statement pieces on the belt.

Azmeri accessorised her look with silver ear studs and a matching bracelet. The actress opted for a subtle makeup look with kohl-rimmed eyes and matte mauve lipstick. The diva tied her hair in a sleek bun parted from the middle.

Sharing pictures from the grand event on Instagram, Ajmeri wrote, “Thank you @brac.aarong and the entire team who have worked so hard on my sherry and jewellery. It was great to wear my desi Dhakai Jamdani to the event. When it comes to jamdani, I think of nothing more than Aaron! Thank you for such a special event in such a short span of time. Special thanks to Asif bhai who simply said ‘yes’ to Jamdani when I expressed my interest to wear one from Aaron.

Directed by Abdullah Mohamed Saad, the film highlights the sexual harassment and threats faced by women in Bangladesh. This is the first time that a Bangladeshi film has been selected for the section ‘Un Certain Regard’.
