Bangkok-Bound SpiceJet Flight Makes Emergency Landing In Kolkata After Pilot Spots Broken Engine Blade

A SpiceJet flight en route to Bangkok made an emergency landing at the Kolkata airport in the early hours of Monday after the pilot noticed a broken engine blade, officials said. The Boeing 737, operating as flight SG83, took off from Kolkata airport for Bangkok at around 1.09 am with 178 passengers and six crew members. He said that after a few minutes the pilot noticed that one of the blades of the left engine was broken.

He said that soon, he contacted the air traffic control and a full emergency was declared at the Kolkata airport with fire engines, ambulances and CISF emergency teams waiting.

Airport officials said the plane made an emergency landing at 1.27 am and all passengers and crew members were evacuated safely. He said that the full emergency was ended at 2 am.

The passengers left for Bangkok by another flight at 7.10 am, officials said. He said the plane with the damaged engine blade was being investigated.
