Gwalior : A day before the proposed proposal Bharat Bandh of farmers’ unions, Union Minister of Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar said on sunday farmers Leaving the path of agitation, the option of dialogue should be chosen.
Speaking at an event at Gwalior’s Agricultural College, Tomar said, “I want to appeal to the farmers to leave the path of agitation and follow the path of dialogue. The Union Minister stressed that farmers’ protest should not become a political issue.
Tomar said, “The farmers’ movement should not be mixed with politics. The farmer belongs to everyone. The government has negotiated very sensitively with the farmers’ union and is ready to do so in future also.”
Meanwhile, the United Kisan Morcha (SKM), a coalition of farmer unions, has called for Bharti Close Today to mark the first anniversary of the enactment of three agricultural laws.
SKM has said that there will be a nationwide strike from 6 am to 4 pm today.
SKM said that during this period, all government and private offices, educational and other institutions, shops, industries and commercial establishments as well as public events and events will remain closed across the country.
However, the exemption from the shutdown includes all emergency establishments and essential services including hospitals, medical stores, relief and rescue operations and those involved in personal emergencies.
The Bharat Bandh received support from more than 500 farmer organisations, 15 trade unions, political parties, six state governments and various sections of the society. The state governments of Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Punjab, Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh have extended their support. Protest against Bharat Bandh.
Till now, Left parties like Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, All India Forward Bloc, Revolutionary Socialist Party and many other parties like Indian National Congress, Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party, Telugu Desam Party, Janata Dal (Secular), Bahujan Samaj Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, SAD-United, Yuvajan Shramik Rythu Congress Party, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Swaraj India And others have extended their support to the Bharat Bandh.
Farmers have been protesting at various sites since November 26 last year against three enacted agricultural laws: the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020; Farmers Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act 2020 and Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
Farmer leaders and the Center have held several rounds of talks but the impasse remains.
