Prayagraj: The festival of Eid-ul-Zuha was modest on Wednesday in the city of Sangam.
Following the appeal of their religious leaders, the Muslims of the city observed the festival following all the COVID protocols. Not many people went to the main mosques of the city. They remained confined to their homes, and only visited mosques in their respective localities. The fun-lovers also avoided mass gatherings.
Meanwhile, large numbers of devout Muslims were seen serving the poor and needy, offering new clothes, food and financial help.
“My family did not sacrifice this year as some of our relatives have lost their lives to Covid. The celebration was quiet. There was only one family gathering at our house,” said Mohammad Fahazan of the Old City area.
“We prepared all the special Eid delicacies and distributed it among the poor families living nearby,” said Shahab Uddin, a tailor living in Harwara area.
Although a few days ago, a large number of people went out for shopping. BakridBut the streets were relatively less crowded on the day of the festival. Only a limited number of people reached all the major mosques of the city. Overall, people remained confined either to their homes or to their localities.
Due to some easing of restrictions, families visited each other and local parks, malls and restaurants were also seen.
“Some families visited our restaurant. We had also made special preparations for the occasion,” said Raju Jaiswal, owner of a local restaurant in the Civil Lines area.
Many Hindu families also visited their Muslim friends and celebrated the festival together. “I never miss meeting my Muslim friends on Eid and Bakrid. Though, last year, restrictions were stricter, this year the festival was celebrated more freely as the number of Covid cases has come down,” said Gopal Srivastava, a city executive.
“No guests came on Eid this year, but some of my friends came to my house on Bakrid and we had a lot of fun. I am thankful to the almighty for this, as I did not want to be all alone on the festival day like last time,” said Abbas Ali, a resident of Dariyaabad.
