Badminton Fraternity Plunged Into Shock Following Demise of Chinese Teenager Zhang Zhi Jie During Badminton Asia Junior Championships – News18

The world of badminton was sent into a state of shock as Chinese teenage Zhang Zhi Jie met his untimely demise at the young age of 17 years after crashing to the ground during the Badminton Asia Junior Championships in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

The Chinese sensation collapsed to the ground during his game against Kazuma Kawano and had to be carried off the court. However, the efforts proved futile as the youngster reached his heavenly abode on the 1st of July.

Badminton Asia confirmed the tragedy and sent their respects to the departed in a social media post.

Indian ace shuttler PV Sindhu was one amongst many to send her condolences to Zhi’s kith and kin following the horrendous tragedy.

Sindhu wrote, “Absolutely heartbreaking news coming from the Junior Asian Badminton Championships about the loss of young badminton player Zhang Zhi Jie. I offer my deepest condolences to Zhang’s family during this devastating time. The world has lost a remarkable talent today.”

Some suggested that immediate resuscitation protocols should have been followed as soon as the teenager collapsed with some criticising the lack of preparedness of the medical team.
