Babul Supriyo decides to quit politics, BJP; ‘Goodbye’ written in Facebook post

Kolkata: Former Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Babul Supriyo on Saturday announced his decision to quit politics.

However, he clarified that he is not joining any other political party and added that he has always been a team player.

Giving information about his decision on Facebook, the Asansol MP said that he joined politics for social work, it can be done without coming into politics.

The singer-turned-politician also shared that he has placed his decision to quit politics in front of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda in the last few days.

He thanked the BJP central leadership for inspiring them in every possible way and said that he would never forget their love.

Supriyo, who was among those dropped from the Union Cabinet in a reshuffle on July 7, also clarified that he was not bargaining for any position and prayed that he should not be misunderstood.

Supriyo, who lost to Trinamool Congress (TMC) from Tollygunge assembly constituency in the recently held West Bengal elections, said there is a big difference between 2014 and 2019.

The Asansol MP, who had a problematic relationship with West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh, also hinted at differences between the state’s saffron party leaders.

Stating that the BJP is currently the main opposition party in West Bengal, Supriyo said that now there are many new youth leaders and senior leaders.

He said that the party will scale new heights under his leadership, it does not matter whether one lives or not.
