Babies In Odisha Named ‘Chandrayaan’ For Being Born On The Day Of Moon Mission

Odisha: On the historic day, when India became the first nation to safely land on moon’s south pole, several new born babies in Odisha shortly after the country’s success were named ‘Chandrayaan’.

Four newborns – three boys and a girl – entered the world at the Kendrapara district hospital in Odisha on a Wednesday evening. Overwhelmed by the momentous occasion, their parents made a special decision regarding their names.

One father, Pravat Mallick, shared the joy of the event by stating, “It was a double delight. Our baby was born a few minutes after the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon. We have decided to name the child after the lunar mission.”

In accordance with local tradition, it’s customary to name a newborn on the 21st day after their birth, following a puja (a ritualistic ceremony).

Ranu Mallick, wife of Pravat and resident of Aripada village, gave birth to a son. She expressed that they would suggest to the elders in their family to consider naming their baby boy after Chandrayaan.

Explaining further, Ranu mentioned that they were contemplating names like “Chandra” or “Luna,” as Chandrayaan symbolizes a vehicle to the Moon. She added a touch of humor, stating that “Chandrayaan, however, is a stylish name. We will take a final decision on the 21st day puja,” with a smile on her face.
