Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya added 286 runs for the second wicket for the South Delhi Superstarz in the Delhi Premier League 2024 match against the North Delhi Strikers on Saturday.

Indian batter duo of Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya created a new world record of highest partnership in T20 cricket on Saturday (August 31) by adding a total of 286 runs for the second wicket during the Delhi Premier League (DPL) T20 match played between South Delhi Superstarz and North Delhi Strikers at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Superstarz captain Badoni hammered 165 runs from just 55 balls, and Arya amassed a total of 120 runs in 50 deliveries.

The previous record of highest partnership for any wicket in T20 cricket’s history was held by Japan’s batting duo of Lachlan Yamamoto-Lake (134) and Kendel Kadowaki-Fleming (109). They had added 258 runs for the first wicket during the T20I match against China in Mong Kok on February 15, 2024.

The record stand between Badoni and Arya helped the South Delhi team post a total of 308 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs, which is a record for the second-highest total in T20s.

South Delhi’s captain, Badoni, who plays for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, hammered as many as 19 sixes during his stay at the crease, which is a record for most sixes hammered by an Indian batter in a T20 innings. His knock of 165 is also the highest score by an Indian in the shortest format of the game. He went past Shreyas Iyer’s tally of 147 runs, which he scored for Mumbai against Sikkim in Indore on February 21, 2019.

Priyansh, on the other hand, smacked six sixes in an over bowled by Manan Bhardwaj to equal former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh’s record. Yuvraj was the first Indian batter to hit six sixes in an over. He achieved the feat during the T20 World Cup 2007 match played between India and England at Kingsmead in Durban on September 19, 2007.

For the North Delhi Strikers, Siddhartha Solanki picked up three wickets for 52 runs in four overs, and two South Delhi batters were sent back to the pavilion by Pranshu Vijayran. Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Suyash Sharma had a forgetful game on Saturday as he conceded 66 runs in his quota of four overs and was not able to take any wicket. On the other hand, Manan was smashed for 60 runs in just two overs.
