Ayurveda has been practiced in India since ancient times. It includes various concepts of immunity but the most important ones are Bala – the concept of strength, Vyadhi Kshamthava – the concept of resistance to the development of disease and Ojas – the concept of supreme resilience. Given the importance of a strong immune system, many people have turned to Ayurveda to aid in the fight against the novel coronavirus.

According to Ayurveda, following are some of the ways in which you can boost your immunity:

Ayurvedic Blend

Every Indian must have heard the word hard in the house. Kada is an ayurvedic concoction prepared by mixing various herbs and spices, which are boiled in water for more than ten minutes to extract all the medicinal benefits of these herbs. Kadhai is a popular home remedy during cold and dry weather and can help boost immunity.

This herbal mixture can be made by mixing basil (basil), cinnamon (cinnamon), black pepper (black pepper), shunthi (dry ginger) and raisins (raisins) in water. You can add jaggery or natural honey to this mixture if needed. You can also mix half a teaspoon of turmeric powder in 150 ml of warm milk. This conch shell should be done only once in a day.

You can practice yoga asanas such as Savasana, Sukhasana and Siddhasana for 20 minutes a day, two to three times a day, to maintain your nervous and endocrine systems. You should also practice Pranayama daily to calm your mind.

Basic Ayurvedic Procedures

According to the Ministry of AYUSH, there are certain Ayurvedic procedures which are believed to improve your immunity against respiratory diseases like COVID-19. You can practice procedures like Pratimarsha Nasya where you have to apply sesame oil, coconut oil or ghee in both the nostrils in the morning and evening.

Another procedure is oil pulling therapy, in which you put a tablespoon of sesame or coconut oil in your mouth and swish it for 2 to 3 minutes, then spit it out. After this wash your mouth with warm water and practice this therapy once or twice a day.
