‘Awareness helps to spread message’: Govt defends PM Modi’s photo on Covid certificate

New Delhi: The Modi government is being criticized for the photo of the Prime Minister on the Kovid-19 vaccine certificate. In response to this, the Rajya Sabha was told on Tuesday that the photo along with the words of the Prime Minister in the vaccination certificate reinforces the message of creating awareness about following COVID-appropriate behavior even after vaccination.

Minister of State for Health, Bharti Praveen Pawar, in a written reply, said that the format of the Covid-19 vaccination certificate being issued from CoWIN is standardized and in line with the WHO guidance developed on Verifiable Vaccination Certificates.

The response came after it was asked whether it was necessary and mandatory to print the Prime Minister’s photographs on the Covid vaccination certificate. He said that in the context of the pandemic, prevention of the disease has become of paramount importance and for this it becomes very important to remind people of the need to follow COVID-appropriate behaviours.

“The picture along with the Prime Minister’s message in the vaccination certificates reinforces the message of creating awareness about the importance of following the proper practice of COVID-19 even after vaccination in the wider public interest,” Pawar said.

“The format of the vaccination certificate, in line with the WHO norms for the vaccination certificate, which includes a message and presentation about the importance of following COVID-appropriate behavior even after vaccination, therefore, taking into account all these factors This decision has been taken.

He said that it is the moral and ethical responsibility of the government to ensure that such important messages are conveyed to the people in the most effective manner.
