After easing the first fourth round, Daniil Medvedev Nick wanted to build a bridge with the home crowd after yelling at fans “low IQ” during his previous win over Kyrgios.
“I was hoping you were going to go a little easier on me,” the No. 2 seed said after his win over Boutique Van de Zandschulp. “I’ll put it this way, it’s a little easier to play a guy from the Netherlands in Melbourne than a guy from Australia.”
“I think every good relationship has its ups and downs but this is good,” the Russian told the Margaret Court Arena crowd. “It’s amusing, it’s real. It’s not like ‘Hi guys, okay, I’ll see you next time’, there’s a relationship going on.”
“Hopefully I can be here for many more years. As I say, I don’t think it will only be good, but I hope it will be more good than bad times, otherwise it won’t work out.”
