Australian Cricket Board announced the launch of a IPL-style draft system. This system will be used to select foreign players in the upcoming 12th edition of Big Bash League.

This year’s BBL is scheduled to begin in December and the draft is expected to be ready in the next few months.

What is the process of drafting system?

There will be four rounds where each club will choose a minimum of two players and a maximum of three players. At the end of the second round, the club which makes the final selection in round two will get the first pick of round three.

According to Cricket Australia, the draft is designed to attract the best available overseas players. And the overall objective is to give BBL a more competitive edge in the international market. The purpose of introduction is also to provide new opportunities to the teams participating in the competition.

CA further said that the draft order will also be determined by a weighted lottery system, with the three teams that have missed out on the BBL 11 finals to determine the first three selections.

Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze will be the four categories, with the Platinum group being the highest paying category.

Players selected by the draft system will not be required to play throughout the tournament. Also, the draft system does not allow the exchange of selected players between clubs.
